Why Should I use a Gun?

"God made Man, but Sam Colt made them Equal".

It's very debated of who first said this.

To be honest, this is it in a nutshell. No matter who you are, how old, young, big, small, male, female, disabled, etc. The gun gives each of us the equalizing factor to whoever our attacker is. If the attacker is bigger, stronger, faster, etc, he's not any of these to a firearm. It doesn't matter if the attacker is athletic and hopped up on speed attacking a 93 year old wheelchair burdened woman, the gun gives her a fighting chance. This is why we should carry a gun. There is always someone bigger, faster, stronger, etc, and most attackers are on some kind of drug that gives them the "up" on us. We must be able to neutralize the attack to defend ourselves and loved ones.

You say that you mind your own business, you keep to yourself, you don't start trouble, you don't go looking for trouble so you really don't need to carry a gun because it can't possibly happen to you. Tell that to the Millions of people that have said or thought the same things since the beginning of time that lost their lives and their loved ones lives because they were unprepared and unable to neutralize the attacker because they we bigger, stronger, faster, etc and they didn't have an equalizer.

You say you're scared of guns. Good... You should be until you receive the proper training and gain a great respect for them and can safely use them correctly and effectively.

You say I'm good, I've got God and He'll protect me. He is all I need. Well, OK. This is only partially right. We do have God, He is all we need. He, guides and instructs us on what to do in this case. In fact He no only tells us how to do it, it is told in a commanding way. It is not only a right, it is our duty to protect ourselves, loved ones, and others around us.

Exodus 22:2-3

2.“If a thief is found breaking in and is struck so that he dies, there shall be no blood guilt for him, 3. But if the sun has risen on him, there shall be blood guilt for him, he shall surely pay. If he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.

This is telling us that if a thief is breaking into your house and you strike or shoot him and he dies there is no human punishment for him, but if he lives he is to pay for his crime. This says nothing about the person that struck him which indicates it’s not a crime nor sin that you used lethal force against them and the end result was their death. It also indicates that if someone is attacking or presumed to be attacking us and we strike them to stop them and they die, it is finished. But, if they don’t die they will pay for the crime which indicates there is a point at which we must stop striking them. We stop when they stop or drop. We can’t walk over to them and shoot them to finish them off, that is murder and we will be the guilty aggressor at that point. We stop them only!

There are other passages in the Bible that show us that protecting ourselves and others is right.

Psalm 82:4

Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.

This is both spiritual and physical. This is telling those of us that are able it is our duty to protect those that are not. We must face the reality that even with the Bible and our 2 Amendment there are those not competent enough to have a firearm or even if they do have one to use it in a manner to protect themselves.

Luke 22:36

He (Jesus) said to them, “but now let the one who has a money bag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one”.

This tells us that there are evil people that will harm us for our stuff and we have an obligation to use whatever means necessary to protect ourselves and others with the tools available to us. In that time it was swords which are just as lethal as the firearms of today. Jesus told them to get swords because that’s what their enemy’s would have to use against them. In today’s world we use firearms because this is what our enemies would have as well.

Psalm 144:1

Blessed be the LORD, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle;

Judges 5:8

When new gods were chosen, then war was in the gates. Was shield or spear to be seen among forty thousand in Israel?

The context of this is that they chose to worship another god and chose to disarm themselves by giving up their weapons and shields. They were attacked and they lost. This tells us that we must be armed and ready at ALL times.

There are other scriptures in the Bible that show where they were armed even while working.

Nehemiah 4:17

17. who were building the wall. Those who carried burdens were loaded in such a way that each labored on the work with one hand and held his weapon with the other. 18. And each of the builders had his sword strapped at his side while he built.

They were told to "stand their ground" and protect themselves while doing their jobs.

All of this points out that it's not just right to defend ourselves and others. It is a must for those of us that are able to do so. There are some that need defending because they can't defend themselves, there are some that can defend themselves but not others, and some that can do both. Which ever category you fall into you are commanded to do so.

You say, the gun is heavy or bulky or a big responsibility. It is a very big responsibility, but one we must endure. It doesn't say life will be easy anywhere in the Bible. They make small guns that are light and just as effective in the big heavy ones.

This is why we teach and train our students. We believe it is not only our responsibility to protect ourselves and others around us. We believe that our teaching and training is giving our students the educational tools they need to protect themselves which in turn it us helping them to protect themselves and others. This is Our Duty.

If we dig a bit further we find evidence that this isn't just a right but a must. We are to follow the word of the Bible.

John 1:1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 Timothy 3:16

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.

In the beginning, the start of it all. Before people were placed on earth the Word was here. We also see where the Scripture (the Word of God) is God breathed. What is written in the Bible was written because God wanted it to be. He had it written down so that we can learn from it, correct others, and be corrected by it.

Deuteronomy 4:2

You shall not add to the word that I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you.

1 Corinthians 4:6

I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another.

Revelation 22:18-19

I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.

This tells us that we are to follow it as written. We are not to add what we think should be added to it. God knows better than we do and this is why this was put here. For us to be humbled and follow His teaching and not our own. With all of this we are to stand up for ourselves and others and protect each other as needs be. This commands us to protect ourselves and others. These scriptures also tell us that is is wrong not to and wrong for someone to take these rights away from us. It tells us those that do will be dealt with in the end.

You say God would want us to be peaceful people. Well, He does.

Romans 12:18

If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.

This is telling us not to start trouble with anybody. It also implies that might not always be possible.

We have a duty here on this earth to protect ourselves and others. Nobody has the right to take it away from us. We are allowed the tools of defense that is modern to our time that our adversaries would have against us.

Stay Safe, Stay Armed!
